Scholarships

The Asian Pacific Fund is pleased to manage many scholarships programs. All are made possible through contributions from individual donors who have started a program to fulfill personal charitable goals. Some are intended to support students with specific personal experiences or career goals, while other scholarships are established to honor a loved one.

The scholarship program information has been organized into three sections:

Below are general descriptions of our many scholarship programs.

Banatao Family Filipino American Education Fund
Scholarships for Filipino American students pursuing a career in engineering or the physical or biological sciences (excluding healthcare). Recipients must be California residents. Five awards of $5,000, renewable for a total of four years. Also, scholarships for SAT preparation courses and college admissions counseling for high school juniors.

Community College Scholarship
Scholarships for students of Asian heritage attending a community college and committed to transferring to a four-year school. Recipients must be Bay Area residents. Eight to 10 awards of $1,000.

Equilar Scholars Program
Scholarships for students majoring in economics, mathematics, science, statistics, business or other specialization with substantial quantitative coursework at the University of California, Berkeley. Two awards of $1,000, renewable for a total of four years.

Helen and L.S. Wong Memorial Scholarship
Scholarships for Fairfield and Suisun, Calif., high-school graduates of Asian heritage. One to three awards of $1,000 to $3,000, renewable for a total of four years.

Hsiao Memorial Economic Scholarship Fund
Scholarship for graduate students of Asian heritage pursing an advanced degree in economics and a career in academia. Supports U.S. citizens or residents or foreign nationals attending college in the U.S. One award of $1,000.

Human Capital Scholarship
Scholarships for first-generation college students from low-income, underrepresented ethnic groups. Two scholarships of $1,500 for incoming freshman attending the University of California.

Jack and Jeanette Chu Scholarship
Scholarship for students of Asian heritage pursuing a business or education-related degree at UC Berkeley. Students majoring in business must be accepted into the Haas School of Business by their third year. One award of $5,000, renewable for a total of four years.

Lauren C. Poon, M.D. Scholarship Fund
Scholarships for Castro Valley, Hayward, San Leandro and San Lorenzo, Calif., high-school graduates pursuing a career in medicine or public health. Two awards of $1,000.

Lapiz Family Scholarship
Scholarships for students who are farm workers, or children of farm or migrant workers, attending the University of California. Two awards of $1,000.

Maria Elena Yuchengco Memorial Journalism Scholarship
Scholarships for Filipino American students pursuing a career in journalism. One to three awards totaling $3,000.

Rachelle Cagampan Nursing Scholarship
Scholarship program that provides educational opportunities for students of Asian heritage dedicated to pursuing a degree and career in nursing. Supports third- or fourth-year undergraduates as well as graduate students residing and attending college in the Bay Area. Five to eight awards of $3,000, renewable for a total of two years.

Sang Chul Lee and Donald O. Cameron Memorial Scholarship
Scholarship for students demonstrating academic excellence in the face of economic adversity. Recipient must be a resident of Alameda County. One award of $3,000, renewable for a total of four years. Offered every four years. Applications will be accepted in 2012.

Shui Kuen and Allen Chin Scholarship
Scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students who are working or have worked, or who have a parent formerly or currently employed, in an Asian-owned or Asian-cuisine restaurant.

Thai-American Leadership Scholarship
Scholarships for students of Thai (possibly Lao or Cambodian) heritage pursuing their higher education and dedicated to serving the Thai community. Recipient must be a resident of Northern California. One award of $1,000, renewable for one year.

Tina Yeh Memorial Fund (Yale Summer Fellowship)
Summer internships supporting Yale undergraduate students working at a non-profit organization serving an Asian community in the U.S. One to three awards of $3,000.


Awards

Growing Up Asian in America
Growing Up Asian in America was established in 1995 and has continued to be the largest celebration of Asian heritage in the country. The program includes a popular K-12 art and essay contest which offers $27,000 in prizes annually, an awards ceremony at the Asian Art Museum, and a traveling exhibit that is hosted by more than 50 public libraries throughout the year.

Chang-Lin Tien Education Leadership Awards
Awards for Asian American educators who demonstrate high academic achievement, administrative skill and potential as a leader in higher education. Two awards of $10,000 each, non-renewable.

Local Leaders in Philanthropy
The Asian Pacific Fund recognizes local leaders in philanthropy every year. Honorees receive recognition for professional accomplishments, leadership and philanthropic contributions.
