Your Options

The Asian Pacific Fund offers many ways to fulfill your charitable goals. Choose the option that best suits your charitable interests and personal circumstance, or combine two or more options to accomplish all the things you want to do for others.

If you have an idea you'd like to discuss, call (415) 433-6859 or e-mail us.

Each of these giving options is different, but all of them share several things in common:

1. Tax Deductions - Because the Asian Pacific Fund is a public charity, you are entitled to maximum tax benefits for every gift you make. You can avoid capital gains on gifts of long-term appreciated assets.

2. Contributions - To fund your giving option the Asian Pacific Fund will accept gifts of cash, publicly-traded and privately-held stock, mutual fund shares, or real estate. The Asian Pacific Fund will consider a contribution of any other asset on a case-by-case basis. Make the gift today or through your estate plans with a bequest.

3. Naming - You may make gifts in the name of an individual or family (e.g. Patel Fund), in memory of a loved one (e.g. Anna Lisa de los Santos Memorial Fund) or remain anonymous (e.g. Gold Mountain Trust).

Donor Advised Funds

Description

Benefits

Donor advised funds are like charitable accounts that enable you to remain involved in grantmaking by recommending grants to your favorite charities.

If you do not have a specific charity in mind, the Asian Pacific Fund can help you learn about needs in the community and the organizations working to meet the needs.

These funds are ideal for donors who seek tax deductions in a specific year and want to remain involved in recommending grant recipients, but who want to avoid the expense and administrative burden of establishing a private foundation.

The Asian Pacific Fund accepts gift recommendations to other public charities whether or not they serve Asians. Recommendations for charitable programs overseas are considered on a case-by-case basis, as are gifts to individuals. Donor advised funds may not be used to fulfill an existing personal pledge or obligation.

Charitable Trusts

Description

Benefits

Individuals and families establish these trusts, also known as charitable remainder trusts, to receive income for their lifetimes and to benefit a charity or support a cause in the future.

Trusts are attractive for individuals and families who want to give but who still need a steady income stream.

Trusts are good options for those who want to liquidate highly appreciated assets (like stock or real property) but do not want to pay significant capital gains.

Receive income for life paid to you and your spouse (or to one or more loved ones) and benefit a charity. You can also receive charitable interest in the future without changing your current lifestyle.

An effective way to diversify your assets if your wealth is tied up in an appreciated asset, like low-basis stock or rental income property, without having to pay capital gains tax on the transaction.
