Profiles

Donors like working with the Asian Pacific Fund because we offer personalized service and specialize working in the Asian community. We know Asian Americans are diverse, that their interests might—or might not—be influenced by their Asian heritage.

We are pleased to introduce you to a few people who have become familiar with us and chosen to give to the community by supporting the Asian Pacific Fund.

Dado and Maria Banatao

Dado and Maria Banatao

Dado and Maria Banatao - The Banatao name is known in the high tech world as synonymous with vision and achievement because of Dado Banatao’s record as an engineer and entrepreneur. But, in all fairness, the name could be as highly-regarded for the vision that Dado and Maria Banatao bring to their charitable investments.

Pat and C.K. Chow

Pat and C.K. Chow

Pat and C.K. Chow - To understand Pat Chow’s priorities, one only need glance at her calendar. Every page of her large wall calendar is covered with detailed notes about where she needs to be to help others. Aside from church activities and neighborhood obligations, she spends every Monday volunteering at a local senior center, playing mah jongg and making friends. She chats with people of all nationalities and ages, and takes pride in finding medical help for people who can’t speak English well.

Vinita and Naren Gupta

Vinita and Naren Gupta

Vinita and Naren Gupta - Vinita and Naren are active in Silicon Valley business, yet still make time to help the causes in their community that are important to them. They have supported the Asian Pacific Fund's Annual Campaign because they value the work the Fund is doing to help the community and to help others give back. They know the Fund has also provided advice, counseling and financial support to one of Vinita's favorite charities, Maitri of Sunnyvale, a program serving South Asian women.

Christine Hoang and Paul Nakada

Christine Hoang and Paul Nakada

Christine Hoang and Paul Nakada - Christine and Paul seem like a familiar Bay Area couple. He works in the software industry as a developer. She gave up the corporate lawyer’s life to do volunteer legal work in the Asian Pacific immigrant community and to focus on raising their young children. They may seem ordinary, but Christine and Paul make a dynamic pair committed to philanthropy both in principle and action.

Quyen Vuong

Quyen Vuong

Quyen Vuong - When living in a Malaysian refugee camp as a teenager, apart from her parents and with only a younger brother by her side, Quyen Vuong promised herself that she would one day return to help other Vietnamese refugees. True to her word, Quyen worked in a camp for the United Nations upon graduating from Yale, but this, it turns out, was just the beginning.

Jerry Yang and Akiko Yamazaki

Jerry Yang and Akiko Yamazaki

Jerry Yang and Akiko Yamazaki - Long before achieving success as the co-founder of Yahoo!, Jerry believed--as did his wife, Akiko Yamazaki—that it’s never too early to start giving back to the community.

Devata Giving Circle

12.31.12 Press Release: Devata gives $13K to organizations serving Cambodian American women and girls in 2012

While most of the Asian Pacific Fund work is with individual donors, in 2010 we were asked to assist the Devata Giving Circle (DGC).  It is the first and currently the only giving circle in the United States founded by Cambodian American women to promote collaborative giving to support community-based organizations working to advance Cambodian women and girls issues.
