		Based on data released from Census 2000, the inaugural Asian Outlook report offers a first look at the state of Asian Americans in the Bay Area, providing previously unavailable analysis that combines socioeconomic factors with geography and specific Asian ethnic groups. Key findings include: The number of Asians in the Bay Area is larger than previously reported, representing 23 percent of the total Bay Area population. The numbers of Asian children and elderly have increased 57 percent to 197 percent faster than the general population. Between 30 and 54.5 percent of Vietnamese, Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, Laotians and Cambodians live in poverty. Asian unemployment in California doubled in the past seven years.
